How Second Brain works

Get it out of your head in seconds, and find it again when it matters.

Tap the microphone and talk the way you think, or type. Second Brain saves your words first, exactly as you said them, so nothing is lost. Then it suggests what they contain: a task with a due date, an event with a time, a note or an idea, filed under the right project. You check each suggestion before anything is created, and every change can be undone.

  • CaptureVoice capture starts recording as soon as it opens. You can also type, share text, links, photos or files from other apps, or attach them to a capture.
  • Smart fill and reviewTap Done and Smart fill drafts tasks, events, notes and ideas with their dates and times. Every field can be edited before you tap Create. Anything it isn't sure about stays highlighted, or goes to Needs review.
  • Ask your notesAsk a question in plain words. Answers come only from what you saved, with the sources listed so you can open and check them.
  • Today and CalendarWhat's due, what's next and what matters, plus a week view with your Apple Calendar beside your tasks. Optional reminders and a morning summary.
  • Your original, alwaysThe words you captured stay in your library next to what was made from them. Undo reverses any organizing, and deleted items wait in Recently deleted for 30 days.
  • Private by defaultOrganizing and answers run on your device with Apple's on-device model when your device supports it. Cloud sync and cloud AI stay off until you choose them. See Privacy.

Requirements

DeviceiPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later.
On-device AIA device that supports Apple Intelligence, running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on and its model downloaded. On other devices you can still capture, organize by hand, search and set reminders. Smart fill and answers can then use Luna in the cloud, if you sign in and allow it.
AccountOptional. Capture, organizing, search, export and deletion work without one, and so does buying Light or Pro. Sign in with Apple is needed to sync with iCloud, use Luna, or import page text.
InternetNot needed for capturing, on-device AI, search or export. Needed for signing in, purchases, iCloud sync, Luna, page import, and the first download of Apple's speech files for your language.
PermissionsMicrophone and Speech Recognition for voice capture. Camera or Photos only when you attach a picture. Calendars only if you connect Apple Calendar. Notifications only for reminders and the morning summary. Each one is asked when you first use it.
iCloudFor sync, an iCloud account with enough free space. Sync is included with Light and Pro.
LanguagesEnglish, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. Voice capture listens in the app's language. Choose it in Settings → Language.

Getting started

  1. Open Second Brain. There is no sign-up. Your library lives on your device from the first second.
  2. Tap the microphone and say what's on your mind. Allow the microphone and speech recognition when iOS asks. Or type.
  3. Tap Done. Smart fill drafts tasks, events, notes and ideas. Check each field, change anything, then tap Create.
  4. Ask your notes. Ask "what did I promise Sam?" or "when is the dentist?" and open the cited sources to check.
  5. Optional: to sync with iCloud or use Luna, open Settings → Cloud sync and AI choices and sign in with Apple. Each one has its own switch.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?
No. Capture, organizing, search, reminders, export and deletion all work without one, on your device. An account is only needed to sync with iCloud, use Luna in the cloud, or import page text. You can buy a plan without one. Signing in never uploads your existing guest library. You choose which thoughts to copy into the account.
What is free?
Typed capture, tasks and projects, local search, on-device transcription, reminders, editing, export and deletion are free and unlimited. Free also includes 20 voice captures, 40 Smart fills and 5 questions to Ask your notes each month, counted on each device and reset on the first of the month. Saving is never blocked: when a limit is reached you can still type and save. A signed-in account that allows cloud AI also gets a one-time sample of 10 cloud AI captures and 5 answers.
What do Light and Pro add?
Light removes the monthly limits on voice capture, Smart fill and Ask your notes, adds Quick mode and private iCloud sync, and includes 300 cloud AI captures and 100 cloud answers a month. Pro includes everything in Light, raises the cloud allowance to 700 cloud AI captures and 250 cloud answers a month, and adds a cloud daily summary and importing a web page's text. Light is billed monthly. Pro is monthly or yearly, and the yearly plan starts with 7 days free for eligible new subscribers. Prices are shown in the app and on the App Store for your country, and Apple handles billing.
What is the difference between on-device AI and Luna?
On-device AI is Apple's model running on your device. Nothing you write leaves it. Luna is a cloud model from OpenAI that runs through our server. It is used only if you sign in and turn on Use Luna to organize and answer, and only within your plan's cloud allowance. On-device AI goes first. Luna covers when your device can't help. Light and Pro can choose Luna as their main engine in Settings. Captures marked Keep only on this iPhone never go to Luna, whichever engine you choose.
What does "Keep only on this iPhone" do?
That capture, and everything made from it, is never synced to iCloud and never sent for cloud AI. On-device AI can still organize it.
Can I trust the answers?
Answers are built only from what you saved, and every answer lists its sources so you can open them. AI can still misread or miss things, so check the sources before you rely on an answer for anything important.
What happens to my voice recordings?
They are transcribed on your device and are not sent to Apple or to us for transcription, with one exception: if you have Light or Pro and chose Luna as your engine, a recording your iPhone was not sure of is sent to Luna to be transcribed before it is organized. That counts as one cloud capture, and we do not store the recording. Details are in the Privacy Policy. Once a transcript is complete, the audio is deleted after 7 days unless you tap Keep this recording. If a transcript fails, the audio stays until you delete it, so you can try again. Transcripts stay after their audio is gone.
Does it sync between my iPhone and iPad?
Yes, with Light or Pro. Sign in with the same Apple Account on both and turn on Sync my library. Your library syncs through your own private iCloud storage, which we cannot read.
What happens if my subscription ends?
Nothing you saved is removed. Reading, editing, search, export and deletion keep working, and the free monthly limits apply again. Sync and cloud allowances stop until you subscribe again.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?
On the new device, use the same Apple Account you subscribed with and tap Restore purchases on the plans screen. The plan's features on that iPhone turn on straight away. If the plan is linked to your Second Brain account, also sign in with Apple to get iCloud sync and your cloud allowance back.
Can I use the app in my own language?
Second Brain speaks eight languages and follows your device's language. To pick a different one without changing anything else, open Settings → Language. Voice capture then listens in that language.
How do I get my data out, or delete it?
Settings → Prepare an export makes a ZIP of your whole library with your original files. Settings → Cloud sync and AI choices → Delete account and library deletes your account, its iCloud copy and what our server holds. Details are on the Your data page.

Troubleshooting

Smart fill or answers aren't available

  • On-device AI needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence, iOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence turned on in iOS Settings, and its model fully downloaded. Downloading can take a while after you first turn it on.
  • If your device can't run it, sign in and turn on Use Luna to organize and answer in Settings → Cloud sync and AI choices, or keep organizing by hand. Your capture is saved either way.
  • If you see a limit message, you have used this month's free voice captures, Smart fills or questions on this device. They reset on the first of the month, and saving still works.

Voice capture isn't transcribing

  • Check iOS Settings → Second Brain → Microphone and Speech Recognition.
  • The first time you use a language, Apple's speech files need a connection to download.
  • If a transcript fails, the recording is kept so you can retry or add the text yourself.

Sync isn't updating

  • Sync needs Light or Pro, a signed-in account, and Sync my library turned on in Settings → Cloud sync and AI choices.
  • Make sure the device is signed in to iCloud and has free iCloud storage, then tap Sync now.
  • If the same item changed on two devices, the app asks you which version to keep. Your original capture is always preserved.

Reminders don't arrive

Settings shows whether Reminder notifications are on. If they were turned off, tap the row to open iOS Settings and allow them.

My plan isn't recognised

Make sure your iPhone uses the same Apple Account you subscribed with, then tap Restore purchases. If the plan is linked to your Second Brain account, sign in with Apple as well. Refunds and billing questions are handled by Apple through Apple Support.

The app is in the wrong language

Open Settings → Language and pick the one you want. The app, its widgets and the Share extension follow straight away.
